The Knight Division for Scholarships and Student Inclusion

The Knight Division is responsible for coordinating the College’s undergraduate scholarship programs and inclusive student initiatives, including the recruitment and retention of students from underrepresented groups.

Knight Division highlights from 2023:

  • The Knight Division awarded more than $500,000 in need- and merit-based scholarships in 2023, including internship travel and professional development grants.
  • NBCU Academy sponsored 14 students this year. In addition, CJC was one of 15 schools to collaborate in their first live-streamed Next Level Summit, hosting a watch partner in the new Atlas Lab.  
  • Knight Talks, a student-produced talk show, is now aired on PBS, entering its third season this spring.
  • The Knight Division helped finance student attendance at Gotham Week in New York, a program dedicated to championing and empowering young professionals facing the challenges of transitioning from student to industry professional.
  • The program hosted Gainesville’s Oak View Middle School fieldtrip to Weimer Hall, with interactive tours of the facilities and information sessions with student ambassadors.

The Knight Division also leads the College’s student experiences, including immersion opportunities, student organizations and high-school programs. Among the 2023 highlights:

  • Funding from the Hearst Foundation helped the College launch CJC on the Go, a program that partners with Florida Title IX high schools to expose high school students to career opportunities in the communications industry and what CJC has to offer.  
  • The Agency launched its Agency Essentials introductory course, expanding access to the Agency Experience among underclassmen.
  • The 2023 Summer Media Institute sold out with more than 170 attendees from 16 states and earned another year of rave reviews from participants and parents.
  • The CJC STEM Translational Communication Center has relaunched the Science Communigators student organization, which is designed to improve translation of science to various stakeholders and to provide opportunity to gain valuable experience in science communication.
